Using industry and academia for research and drug discovery in order to push vaccines and treatments to the market

Assembling to control the rising effect of vector-borne disease in the state of Florida.

Managing the spread of these diseases through the collaboration of the public and private sector.

WELCOME

Under the funding of the Florida Board of Governors, the University of Florida and University of South Florida are leading the assembly of an alliance directed toward the detection, prevention, and treatment of vector-borne diseases, which will hopefully provide the catalyst for the development of efficient strategies to combat this regional and global problem.  This consortium will include powerful scientific and technical methods such as in vitro, animal or computer-based predictive models, biomarkers for safety and effectiveness, and new clinical evaluation techniques for a streamlined and efficient drug development process.  The group will also establish new validated methods of detection and prevention with the assistance of students and faculty working together in high profile development projects.  This would hopefully lead to the creation of a sustainable network around the state, with academia bringing potential findings in drug discovery to the forefront of research, industry driving the findings through the pipeline for investment in the pharmaceutical market, and public health providing the implementation and preventive strategies directly to the field.
